Typing Skill Metrix – How to Play (User Guide)

A practical guide designed for real skill growth, from Home Position fundamentals to EIKEN and TOEIC typing.

1) What this app is

Typing Skill Metrix is a browser-based typing trainer designed for both keyboard fundamentals and practical English input, from Home Position drills to EIKEN and TOEIC vocabulary and longer phrase-style typing. The UI is built for clarity: a centered typing overlay, a 3D-style on-screen keyboard, and a statistics HUD that updates in real time.

2) Quick Start (60-second sprint)

Recommended first run

  1. Open the app and click “TYPING SKILL METRIX” (center button) to open the training menu.
  2. Choose a VOCAB SET (recommended: start with HOME POS if you are rebuilding fundamentals).
  3. Select a time mode (for quick practice, start with 60 sec).
  4. Start the session (your LP can label this as Start or Run).
  5. Type what you see, accuracy first, then speed.

Tip: Short sprint sessions make it easy to iterate quickly and improve technique with immediate feedback.

3) Training Path (recommended order)

This app is intentionally structured so that learners can grow from low step basics to advanced real-world typing.

Step A — HOME POS (Fundamentals)

  • Finger placement and home row habits
  • Consistent rhythm (no hunting and pecking)
  • Stable keystroke accuracy

Step B — EIKEN and TOEIC (Vocabulary to practical English)

  • EIKEN 5 to EIKEN 4 to EIKEN 3
  • TOEIC

LP wording suggestion: Start with HOME POS, then level up through EIKEN and TOEIC sets, one consistent UI, one skill ladder.

4) What you see during play (UI explanation)

A) The HUD (real-time performance)

  • SCORE
  • TIME
  • MISS
  • COMBO
  • sec per text (pace indicator)

B) The center typing overlay (high readability)

  • Typed portion vs remaining portion is visually separated
  • Target line shows the next content to type
  • Short items stay compact, long items expand within screen limits

C) Meaning support (learning-friendly)

The overlay can include a POS and meaning line (Japanese gloss and part-of-speech display), plus question numbering depending on the set.

D) Space key hint (practical typing)

When a space is required, a dedicated hint element can appear in the overlay. This trains real formatting, not only isolated letters.

E) 3D on-screen keyboard (immersion and guidance)

A perspective-based 3D keyboard sits in the lower portion of the screen, including punctuation and a SPACE row to support realistic typing patterns.

5) Time Modes (short sprint to full-clear mastery)

Typing Skill Metrix supports both fast repetition and deep complete-the-set training. BEST SCORE is tracked per mode.

  • 60 sec
  • 180 sec
  • 300 sec
  • ALL MODE
  • ALL RANDOM

How to use these modes effectively

  • 60 sec: technique drills, rhythm building, daily habit loop
  • 180 and 300 sec: endurance and consistency under mild fatigue
  • ALL and ALL RANDOM: one set clear mastery, best for competency and retention checks
Time modes and best score tracking overview
Time modes: sprint practice to full-clear mastery.

6) Finish screen (results, leveling, weak keys)

When a session ends, the FINISH result overlay shows performance, leveling, and weak keys, so you can immediately decide what to fix next.

  • LEVEL and RANK (stars)
  • MODE
  • MAX COMBO
  • WORDS (cleared items)
  • CORRECT, MISSTYPE, ACCURACY
  • MISS-TYPED10 (Top 10 weak keys)

Why this matters: you do not just finish and forget. You get immediate feedback on performance and which keys are slowing you down.

7) STATUS (growth tracking and self-improvement dashboard)

STATUS is built for long-term skill building. It has two pages and a footer area with controls to review results and navigate.

Page 1: Lifetime totals, best scores, and score trend

  • LIFETIME TOTAL (total score, play time, total words, total correct, total misses, accuracy, total play count)
  • BEST SCORE by mode (60, 180, 300, ALL, ALL RANDOM)
  • SCORE TREND graph (recent play history)

Page 2: Set-based records and weak keys

  • VOCAB SET SCORE and CONVERSATION SCORE in a two-column layout
  • MOST MIS-TYPED KEYS ranking list
  • Readable multi-column layout support for the ranking list

LP wording suggestion: STATUS turns practice into measurable growth, your totals, your best modes, your trend, and your weak keys are always visible.

8) Pause and focus controls

A dedicated pause overlay exists, so the session can be interrupted without losing context. This helps learners practice in realistic environments: short breaks, quick resets, and refocus.

9) Thanks (music credits)

The app includes a special thanks panel with music credits and creator links (for example, Pixabay). This is a trust and quality point for overseas audiences: the atmosphere is supported by properly credited royalty-free music.

10) Practical typing tips

  • Type exactly what you see. Do not skip spaces. Watch the space hint when it appears.
  • Chase MISS equals zero first. Speed becomes stable once accuracy is consistent.
  • Use sec per text as your rhythm meter. Reduce hesitation, not forceful speed.
  • Study your MISS-TYPED10. Fixing the worst three keys produces the fastest improvement.
  • Switch modes intentionally: 60 sec for daily habit, ALL and ALL RANDOM for mastery checks.

11) Backup Code (save & restore your progress)

Typing Skill Metrix includes a Backup Code system so you can save and restore your core STATUS data without creating an account. This is useful when you change devices, use shared PCs, or clear browser data.

How to generate a backup code

  1. Open STATUS and choose BACKUP CODE.
  2. Enter a passphrase (recommended: 6+ characters).
  3. Click GENERATE.
  4. Click COPY CODE and save it somewhere safe.

How to restore

  1. Open RESTORE.
  2. Enter the same passphrase used for backup.
  3. Paste your saved backup code, then run restore.

Important: The passphrase is not stored. To restore successfully, you must have both the backup code and the passphrase. Do not share your backup code publicly.
